Capitol-area genealogy resources highlighted at 2010 RUSA preconference

Librarians from all types of libraries have the exciting opportunity to uncover genealogy research treasure troves at the “Behind the Genealogy Reference Desk: Our Capital’s Hidden Genealogy Gems”, an upcoming preconference presented by the History Section of RUSA.

This full-day event, sponsored by ProQuest, is a valuable professional development opportunity for both new reference librarians, who will benefit from the fundamental tools presented at this event, as well as experienced genealogy librarians looking for a refresher course. Personal family history researchers interested in the resources presented at this workshop are also welcome to attend.

The event will be held 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Friday, June 25, at the Daughters of the American Revolution Library, 1776 D Street NW, Washington, D.C. Speakers and topics will include Eric Grundset, library director, and Terry Davis Ward, director of genealogy from the Daughters of the American Revolution Library; Megan Lewis, reference coordinator from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum; a representative from the Daughters of the American Revolution; and an expert in Native American research. Additionally, noted genealogist John Humphrey will show us how to make the most of our time and resources when researching in our nation’s capital.

Interested participants can register for this event only, or can register in conjunction with Annual Conference registration by adding it as a ticketed event. For institute-only registration using the online form (login required) available at www.ala.org/annual, select “Institute and Ticketed Events Only” as the registration type, and proceed to select this event from the list (event code RUS2).
